Join us – UNWTO Silk Road Programme

Since 2010 we support the UNWTO ( UN World Tourism Organization) Silk Road Programme. The UNWTO Silk Road Programme is a collaborative initiative designed to enhance sustainable tourism development along the historic Silk Road route.

IMG_logo UNWTO Silk Road ProgrammeIt aims to maximize the benefits of tourism development for local Silk Road communities, while stimulating investment and promoting the conservation of the route’s natural and cultural heritage. Additionally, it is working to foster greater co- operation between Silk Road countries and regions, with the established aim of creating a seamless and memorable Silk Road travel experience.

Since 2012 the Travel Advisers Community supports the Tour Operators Initiative of this programme which we see as a lighthouse of sustainable tourism development.

The Travel Advisers Community does encourage (incoming) tour operators in Silk Road areas to join the programme.

Members of the Travel Advisers Community taking part in the UNWTO Silk Road Programme benefit from our special promotional support to sell their tour and service offers and shall be highlighted in our Germany Website https://reisecockpit.de

There is also a huge support offered by the Tour Operators’ Initiative for
sustainable tourism development.

About the Tour Operators’ Initiative for Sustainable Tourism Development (TOI)

Established in 2000, the Tour Operators’ Initiative for Sustainable Tourism Development (TOI) has been created to encourage travel companies to make a commitment to sustainable development and to promote sound tourism practices, mainly through:

  • Implementation of environmental management strategies in operations and at destination
  • Responsible tourism development and growth with a focus on destination lifecycle
  • Promotion of responsible travel choices and consumer behaviours

The Initiative, fully supported by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which hosts the TOI’s Secretariat, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), has been a pioneer in demonstrating that sustainable development guarantees the competitiveness, attractiveness and survival of destinations and the existence of tourism business in the medium- and long-term.
